Professor John T. Foster

    George H. Fancher Fellow and Associate Professor in the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, USA

    John T. Foster is a George H. Fancher Fellow and associate professor in the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He is also holds appointments in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics and the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (formerly ICES). He is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Daytum, a tech enabled, energy focused, data science education company. Formerly, he was a senior member of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM. He has PhD from Purdue University and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. During his career in research he has been involved in many projects ranging from full scale projectile penetration field tests, to laboratory experiments using Kolsky bars, to modeling and simulation efforts using some of the world’s largest computers. His research interests are in computational mechanics, multi-scale modeling, and data science with applications to geomechanics, impact mechanics, fracture mechanics, and anomalous transport processes.
